I am an award-winning senior creative leader who brings the best of brand-led advertising and user-centric design together to solve today’s modern problems. I’ve gone from designing some of the first online stores and earliest viral campaigns, to running creative departments and crafting memorable advertising campaigns for some of Australia’s best-loved brands. Over this time, I’ve developed a keen eye which, combined with a fascination for what makes people tick, means the work I am involved in is as aesthetically beautiful as it is effective

Canva template design in Australia, questions

Branded, editable templates set up in your own Canva workspace, with your fonts, colours and logo loaded as a brand kit, plus locked elements so the layout does not break when your team edits it. A typical gig covers a set of layouts across the formats you use. You should get the templates shared to your account and a short walkthrough on using them.

It survives being edited by someone who is not a designer. That means locked backgrounds and logos, text boxes that hold their position, clear placeholder copy, and enough room that a longer headline does not wreck the layout. A template that only looks right with the exact words the designer used has not done its job.

Usually 3 to 7 days for a starter set from existing brand files. A larger system across social, documents and presentations runs 1 to 2 weeks. If your brand assets are scattered, expect the designer to consolidate them into a brand kit first, which is worth doing once properly.

For brand kits, locked elements and easy resizing, the paid tier makes the gig meaningfully more useful, and most template work assumes it. You can be handed templates on a free account, but you lose brand kit and some of the controls that stop layouts breaking. Confirm which plan you are on before the gig starts.

You are paying for the decisions, not the clicking. Canva offers endless looks and no reason to choose one, and that is exactly where most businesses end up inconsistent. A designer sets the system (type scale, colour use, logo placement, hierarchy) and you do the day-to-day production yourself, which is cheaper than paying per post forever.

Template links shared into your Canva workspace, the brand kit set up with your fonts and colours, and usually a short guide or recorded walkthrough. Ask for the walkthrough. The most common reason a template set goes unused is that nobody showed the team how it works.

In Australia, a starter set of branded templates typically runs $400 to $1,000. A fuller system covering social formats, documents, presentations and a brand kit more commonly lands at $1,200 to $3,000. Adding a walkthrough session or a short usage guide is a small extra and usually worth it.

The range on this page runs from about $49 to $164 an hour. Around $49 to $66 is a junior designer, $58 to $115 covers most gigs (an experienced designer working solo), and above $123 is a design lead. Template work sits at the practical end of design, so the middle of the band usually gets you someone who builds systems that hold up.

Ask whether they set up brand kits and lock elements, since that is what separates a template from a one-off design. Ask to see a set a client has been running themselves for a while. If they offer a walkthrough for your team, that is a good sign.

Post a Canva template design gig in under five minutes. Describe the work, set your budget and timeframe, and choose whether it is time-based or outcome-based. Local freelancers send a bid with a quote, you compare their profiles, portfolios and reviews, then pick the one that fits. Posting is free, so you only pay for the work.

Every gig is split into stages you both agree on up front. You fund each stage before the work starts and it is held securely through Stripe, then released once you sign off. No chasing invoices, and no paying for work that is not done.
